Pam Sytsema

Hello!

My name is Jeaninne. I am a devoted doula serving the Kalamazoo, MI area. For decades, I have had the honor of supporting pregnant people through labor and delivery with compassion, advocacy, and deep respect for each family’s journey. As a doula and maternal–child health professional, my work is rooted in experience, trust, and a solid commitment to safe, empowering birth experiences.

My professional background in maternal and child health allows me to serve families across many settings, with a special emphasis on Black maternal and child health. I am deeply aware of the disparities that continue to impact Black and Brown pregnant people and their babies, and I am passionate about being part of the solution. Every family deserves to be heard, respected, and supported before, during, and after birth.

I proudly accept Medicaid insurance, helping to ensure doula care is accessible and affordable for all families who need it most. I currently serve families in Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Kent, and Van Buren counties, offering culturally responsive, community-centered support throughout pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

My calling is to walk alongside families, providing education, emotional support, and advocacy while working to reduce preventable complications and improve birth outcomes. Birth is not just a medical event; it is a life-changing experience, and I am committed to ensuring it is one grounded in dignity, safety, and care.

Using the traditional Chinese method, we carefully steam your placenta with specialized herbs, dehydrate it, and finely grind it into powder form before encapsulating it. This revered technique, rooted in traditional Chinese medicine principles, aims to preserve the placenta’s beneficial properties. FAQs

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth. Doulas do not replace medical providers but work alongside your care team to support your birth experience.

What does a doula do during labor and birth?

A doula offers comfort measures such as breathing techniques, position changes, massage, reassurance, advocacy, and guidance through labor. The goal is to help you feel informed, supported, and empowered.

May my partner still be involved if I have a doula?

Absolutely. A doula supports both the birthing person and their partner. Doulas help partners feel confident and involved while ensuring they can rest and participate in ways that feel meaningful.

Is having a doula evidence-based?

Yes. Research shows that continuous labor support from a doula can reduce the likelihood of cesarean birth, shorten labor, decrease the need for pain medication, and increase satisfaction with the birth experience.

Does insurance or Medicaid cover doula services?

Coverage varies by state and insurance plan. Some Medicaid programs and private insurers cover doula services or offer reimbursement. It’s important to check with your insurance provider.

How much does a doula cost?

Fees vary based on services offered, experience, and location.
